It has been confirmed that on Friday 17th October 2014 Google released a new version of the Penguin Algorithm.
The Google Penguin algorithm is designed to target and penalise links that could be regarded as low quality in the quest of reducing unnatural ranking.
Examples of low quality or unnatural back link profiles are those that would include:
-
Link farms
-
Paid links
-
Links from low quality sites
-
Links that aren't relevant to the website's subject matter
-
Anchor tags or URL's that are stuffed with keywords
As mentioned in our previous blog "Release the Panda (4.1)", the Google Penguin update has been long awaited, with the last update released in October 2013.
Anyone who may have experienced a penguin penalty will tell you that this is big news. Those that may have been subject to a penalty back in October 2013 will have been working towards improving their back link profile ready for this exact moment, allowing the website to regain it's visibility and further improve it's ranking throughout Google Search.
We hope that everyone took the opportunity to review their back link profiles and make the necessary updates before Google Penguin 3.0 was released because it may be a long time waiting before the next algorithm is released.
