Seven years. That’s how long we’ve been building and launching the Specavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year website and today marks the start of the 2019 competition.
This year the competition is fronted by ambassador, Oti Mabuse, star of Strictly Come Dancing and The Greatest Dancer.
The competition aims to raise funds for anti-bullying charity, Kidscape, with £1 being added to the pot every time a donation is made online. Last year’s competition raised over £100,000 for Kidscape, through online entries, sponsorship and ticket sales to the awards event.
Here are a few facts about this year’s website:
Emoji support
Struggling for words? No need to worry, you can now use emojis in your entry form. So when the website asks, ‘tell us what your glasses mean to you’, you can say...
or...
or even...
Easy entry
Entering couldn’t be easier. You can enter your selfie directly from Facebook, Instagram or simply upload a new photo you’ve taken. The process works on mobile, desktop or tablet.
Secure Facebook
This year, Facebook launched an entirely new process for connecting to third-party apps (like this competition website) to make sure all user data is handled with care. As a result, much hard work has gone into ensuring this year’s competition website remains compliant and fully up to date with security requirements.
Being selected to work with Specsavers on the SWOTY campaign was an honour, being asked back seven times in a row is something we’re very proud of!
