We've had the pleasure of Francesca Dye joining us at the Indulge studio this week for work experience, learning all about responsive web design & development as well as the various facets of digital marketing...
Hello! I'm Fran and I'm a marketing undergrad at Bournemouth Uni, having completed my first two years I am now eagerly awaiting to start my placement year as part of my sandwich degree. Within the marketing industry, I have learnt how important it is to gain work experience to learn how to apply your academic skills into a real functioning marketing environment, so a work experience opportunity at Indulge was perfect timing! This year I studied a 'Digital Communication Strategies' unit which introduced me to the exciting, fast paced digital marketing world. It instantly grabbed my attention, when we had to market a new product solely online using apt digital platforms. My addiction to social media hit the roof as I learnt how to create and monitor a successful digital campaign.
Indulge Media were the perfect company to introduce me to the digital marketing world being one of Guernsey's leading digital agencies (editor's note: we're blushing!). I was in awe of their client portfolio displaying innovative website development and fresh web designs, and wanted to gain an insight into how it all came together from the brief to the finishing touches. I wanted to expand upon my university projects and learn from a collaborative, experienced team how to excel client expectations.
To say I have only been here a week, I feel I have learnt so much...including how to use an Apple Computer! Having a particular interest in web design and branding, I had the opportunity to rebrand and redesign a website for a local company of my choice and with the amazing help from Ollie (senior designer) I was able to see my branding come to life! Also on a branding note, I was given some useful font sites which I had never heard of which can be used to create a simple yet effective logo. I also enjoyed being given the opportunity to work on some client work, sketching a webpage for a local information system company, attached with a real client brief! Lastly, I loved being able to improve my analytic skills to assess competitors for an upcoming social media strategy campaign, looking into their channels e.g. Facebook & Twitter and seeing what worked effectively... or not.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at Indulge with a friendly team of very skilled designers, it has just made me realise that when I graduate I want to join the digital world! Anyone wanting to gain experience in this industry... get indulged!
P.S James Le Gallez makes a lovely cuppa tea!
