Last week, in a fantastic blog post on SEOmoz, Rand Fishkin wrote that both "Google and Bing have confirmed that links shared on Facebook and Twitter have a direct impact on rankings." This is big news, it is something which has long been talked about but this is the first time that the search engines have confirmed that they take links shared on social media seriously.
This brings social media marketing well into the realm of SEO and makes a solid social media strategy an integral part of the SEO process. This week, Danny Dover at SEOmoz is running a casual experiment to find out how Tweets influence search ranking. As part of this test Danny has asked readers to post a link to specific web page from either Twitter or on their website, so here is our link:
Help end Hunger in Sierra Leone and meet the life you change.
SEOmoz will publish their findings as and when they come in so why not put this link onto your website or Tweet about it over the coming days to help get some better results.
This is an exciting time for SEO and social media marketing and these results will be sure to be interesting and could even change the way many people look at their website and marketing strategy in the future. We will keep you posted as and when the results from the test come in!
