This summer we've had two work experience students join us from Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre. Elsa Ferneyhough and Daniela Aguiar both showed a keen interest in web design and digital media and were eager to find out what it's like to work within the industry.
Both students chose to work on web design projects, designing a website to support their music magazine assignment.
During their 1-week work experience, Elsa and Daniela worked closely with Russell, using Sketch and Photoshop, learning how to create wireframes, and picking up tips and tricks on clipping, cloning, and blending to create high-quality images.
Daniela created a site geared around music events called UltraViolet. The website designs incorporated strong use of imagery, simple use of panels and search functionality to find specific bands and locations.
“It was really fun and interesting learning how to use new software (sketch and angle). It was a really good experience and has helped me further my decision with what I want to do in the future, everyone was super helpful and welcoming and it was overall a great experience” Daniela Aguiar.
Elsa worked on a band site, Peregrine. Her intial wireframes went into great detail including tour dates, merchandise store and checkout. Strong use of branding flows throughout the designs, leading you to contact details and social media accounts in the footer.
Both students took a mobile first approach with their designs, learning the importance of mobile-friendly sites and user experience.
"I think that doing work experience with you guys has helped me decide what kind of career path I would like to choose; you were all really helpful in showing me what a career in web design is really like. Thank you for your help and guidance" Elsa Ferneyhough.
This year marked 5 years of Indulge running Code Club at Amherst Primary School, and nearly 10 years working with students from local secondary schools and universities across the UK.
“It's fantastic to see so many students showing interest in our industry, we value their ambition and creativity and look forward to showing our continued support in nurturing a Digital Guernsey” Russell Isabelle, Indulge Media.
